Mile High Stadium,

Its that time of year already. The 2018 Colorado High School Football Season has flown by. Through the season we have seen tremendous upsets, last-second hail marries, dominant performances and nailbiters alike. Now, heading into the state title week for 5A, and 3A we would like to preview the games where our Jenkins Elite Athletes will take the field and also re-cap the championship games for the 1A and 2A Jenkins Elite Athletes. Let’s get started.

5A: (1)Valor Christian VS. (3)Cherry Creek
Cherry Creek:

In a true matchup of a lifetime, the Valor Christian Eagles take on the Cherry Creek Bruins. Jenkins Elite QB Alex Padilla will be looking to unseat perennial powerhouse Valor Christian from their number one seed and also another title trophy. Padilla has had himself a tremendous year so far and his eyes are set firmly on the finish line now. Through the year Alex has racked up over 1,500 yards in the air with 23 touchdowns and only 1 interception. More Jenkins Elite Athletes that will take the field with the Bruins include Sophomore Wide Receiver Chase Penry, (7 TD’s), Senior Wide Receiver Marcus Miller,(6 TD’s), and Junior Wide Receiver Cameron Pollard.

3A: (4)Palmer Ridge VS. (2)Pueblo East
Palmer Ridge:

This won’t be the first time these two teams meet n the 2018 season. If you recall, back in week 3 the Palmer Ridge Bears lost in a heartbreaking 28-21 slugfest. Pueblo East got the better of the Bears in the first match but Jenkins Elite Quarterback Ty Evans looks to make up for that loss in a big way this time around. After the loss to East, Palmer Ridge has gone on to win 10 straight games and outscore their opponents 352 to 63. Ty Evans played a big part in that stat line with 33 total TD’s and almost 2,500 yards on the year. He also has an amazing supporting cast in Jenkins Elite Sophomore WR Kaden Dudley, (6 TD’s), Freshman WR Anthony Castanzo, (2 TD’s), and Senior TE Anthony Rosenstrauch, (1 TD).

Recap 2A: (4)La Junta VS. (6)Platte Valley
La Junta:

La Junta came out with the win in a tight one against Platte Valley in the 2A Championship. The deciding factor to the game was Jenkins Elite QB Jon Nuschy. The senior signal caller tipped the game for the Tigers after a 25-yard touchdown run to seal the game. Nuschy ended the season with an impressive 10 TD’s through the air and 24 TD’s on the ground.

Platte Valley:

The Platte Valley Broncos did what no other team in 2A had done all year. They held La Junta to only 7 points and gave them a run for their money. A big part of that was Jenkins Elite QB, Trevon Wehrman. The Senior QB was able to avoid mistakes and take care of the ball throughout the day. The Broncos ultimately proved to not have quite enough to get the job done when the dust settled, but Wehrman did have himself quite a season. Totaling 1,500 yards through the air with 18 TD’s and almost 1,000 yards on the ground with 13 TD’s.

Recap 2A: (1)Limon VS. (3)Strasburg

Strasburg came into the 1A state title game hungry for a rematch against Limon. These two teams met back in week 4, the final to that one was a limon victory, 36-6. The Indians went on to win out their season on the arm of Jenkins Elite QB Collin Russell. Russell was faced with an early season injury that kept him off the field for a chunk of the season. However when it was time for Collin to strap it back up he did not disappoint. He led the Indian to an 11-1 finish and a state title appearance. In the end, Strasburg wasn’t enough to unseat the one seed in Limon. this time around the game was a close affair in a 13-7 finish. Russell, only a Sophomore will be back next year for a Junior Campaign.

And with that, we are done. Four of the 5 total state title games will have Jenkins Elite athletes taking the field. The final games of the season will be played this Saturday across the day at Mile High Stadium and Colorado State-Pueblo stadium. Do yourself a favor and go watch one or two of these games, you won’t see better matchups all year.
