INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
After finishing with the 2017 Colts’ practice squad, PJ Walker signed a reserve/future contract with the Indianapolis Colts on January 1, 2018. Walker will have the opportunity to compete for the No. 2 or 3 quarterback role for the Colts upcoming season.
Coming into his first season Walker was an undrafted rookie from Temple University. Walker was a standout QB at Temple University and left with offers from the Colts, Eagles, Ravens, Minnesota, Arizona, and Denver. There were multiple teams contacting Walker in the sixth round, but he decided the Colts was the best move. Walker spent his first NFL season as the No. 4 option on the practice squad after the Colts traded for Jacob Brissett to serve as their third quarterback. Phillips signing was highlighted by CBS Sports.
Tim Jenkins said of Phillips, “PJ signing his second contract is a testament to how hardworking he is. PJ has all of the natural gifts and abilities to be in the league for the next 5 – 10 years and deserves all of the good things coming his way!”
Walker will have to make it through the final cuts of the upcoming season roster, but with a full NFL season under his belt he will be able to prove that he is no longer a rookie.
