This Week’s Breakdown

5A: #9 Fairview (10-1) V #8 ThunderRidge (8-2)

  1. This should be a great game. These teams met back in week 3 and the outcome was a close 28-24 Thunderridge victory. Fairview is going to want revenge in a big way this week. The knight will be relying on star QB Aidan Atkinson to get the job done in this one.
  2. Thunderridge is still on an impressive campaign, having one of the best years in recent history. After taking down Castle View last week, the Grizzlies shift their focus to Fairview.
  3. Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at Shea stadium

5A: #10 Arvada West (7-4) V #7 Pomona (6-4)

  1. Arvada is another team on the rise over the past few years. Head coach Brad Pyatt has turned the program around in record time and with plenty of help from his two-star players, Senior WR Chris McEahern and Senior QB Johnny Krutsch. Johnny and Chris have been an effective 1-2 punch all year, look for them to link up in this one.
  2. Pomona came out o the gate swinging this year. The Panthers looked like they hadn’t missed a step since Ryan Marquez and the state title last year. However, in the home stretch of the year, Pomona became plagued with injuries. This is a huge week for them, they are going to come out swinging for the fences again.
  3. Location and Time: Saturday, 10 am at the NAAC

4A: #9 Skyline (7-3) V #8 Pueblo West (8-2)

  1. Skyline comes into the first round of the playoffs sitting at 7-3. The Falcons are led by Senior RB Jeremy Hollingsworth and Sophomore QB Chase Silva. The two form a dangerous offence on the ground and the air.
  2. Pueblo West sits at 8-2 and is looking to advance to the second round of the playoffs. The Cyclones are going to rely on Senior RB Kyle Jameson to get it done on the ground this week.
  3. Location and Time: Saturday, 10 am at Cyclone Stadium

4A: #10 Grand Junction Central (7-2) V #7 Fruita Monument (8-2)

  1. Another rematch game, the last meeting ended up in a 13-9 Grand Junction win. Grand Junction enters round one sitting at 7-2 and hungry for a playoff win. The Tigers will look to build upon their big win against Mesa Ridge last week, a 47-7 blowout. Junction will look to the arm of Junior QB Max Marsh to get the job done in this one
  2. On the flip side of the ball sits 8-2 Fruita Monument. Fruita has an impressive year, their only losses coming to Grand Junction Central and a very good Montrose team, who by the way they took down to the wire in a 24-12 loss. The Wildcats will be calling Senior QB Zach Rush’s number in this one.
  3. Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at Stocker Stadium

3A: #12 Holy Family (7-3) V #5 Harrison (10-0)

  1. Holy Family rides into week one of the playoffs with a 7-3 record. The Tigers have been plagued by injuries all year but have managed to pull together a very nice season. They now have their sights set firmly on undefeated Harrison and Orlando Westbrook.
  2. Harrison has had a record-setting year on the back of Senior QB Orlando Westbrook. The Panthers have made a complete 180 and are looking to campaign into the playoffs. Look for Orlando to make a big impact in this one.
  3. Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at Harrison High School

2A: #5 Salida (9-1) V #4 La Junta (10-0)

  1. Salida has been on an impressive 2018 campaign, ending the regular season in an almost perfect fashion. The Spartans and senior RB Vince Deleo now have their sights set on undefeated La Junta.
  2. There isn’t a lot to say about La Junta other than they have been dominating this year. Here’s a stat line for you, La Junta has outscored their opponents 374 to 68. Senior QB Jon Nuschy will be ready to lead the Tigers in round one.
  3. Location and Time: Saturday, 1 pm at La Junta High School
