This Week’s Breakdown
5A: GOTW: Smoky Hill (6-0) at Denver East (5-1)
- 6-0 Smoky Hill is finally getting some love from the fans. After a 41-0 drubbing over Boulder last week, the Buffaloes are looking as strong as ever. However, they are going up against the best team they have faced all year in Denver East. Tom Thenell will be looking to new starting QB Leslie Richardson to advance them to 7-0.
- Denver East is coming off a very close 13-7 win over Westminister. Senior QB Myles Patterson has shown he is the steady hand behind the Angels offense and they will need him this week to continue to 6-1.
- Location & Time: Friday, 7 pm at All City Stadium.
5A: Grandview (5-1) at Cherokee Trail (6-0)
- Coach Shultz and The Wolves are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Eaglecrest on a last minute hail marry. You can bet these guys are going to be looking for payback this week, and they are definitely going to want to hand CT their first loss of the season. As always, keep your eyes on Senior RB Jordan Billingsley in this one.
- Cherokee Trail is as good as they have ever been. They are looking more and more like the 2012 team that almost unseated Valor Christian in the championship game. Joe Johnson has his eyes set on another W this week. The Cougars are going to be down a starting QB this week and are going to rely on Sophomore Jayden Lavigne to keep the streak going!
- Location & Time: Friday, 7 pm at Legacy Stadium
5A: ThunderRidge (5-1) at Highlands Ranch (2-4)
- The Grizzlies got there revenge last week. Coming off a loss in week 5 ThunderRidge was out for blood and they got it. 49-10 in week 6 against Mountain Vista. They have their eyes set on 2-4 Highlands Ranch this week in a Rivalry game unlike any other in Colorado. These teams hate each other, I think we will be in for a treat.
- The Falcons are coming off a huge one against Rock Canyon, 54-7. This team is loaded with talent, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they start to make a mid-season run and hit their stride in the playoffs. Sophomore QB Jake Rubley is going to have to carry to load in this one. He has had a nice year so far, averaging over 200 yards through the air and 13 total touchdowns on the season.
- Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at Shea Stadium
4A: Montrose (5-0) at Heritage (5-0)
- The Indians are still churning through the competition and after a close one against a good Fruita Team, they might just be the real deal. They are coming up against the best competition they will see this year in Heritage.
- Heritage is rolling. In their last 3 games, they have outscored their opponents 129 to 20. Junior QB Conner Cummiskey and Senior Athlete Gianni Palazzo are the 1-2 punch that is becoming so effective for the Eagles this year. Should be an awesome game.
- Location and Time: Friday, 6 pm at Heritage
4A: Longmont (4-1) at Greeley West (4-1)
- Longmont is still looking very dangerous. After a big 43-8 blowout over Silver Creek, the Trojans are eyeing 4-1 Greeley West. Look to senior QB Oakley Dehning and Senior RB Drake Engelking to lead the charge this week.
- Greeley West is coming off a 49-0 runaway win over intertown rival Greeley Central. Head coach Jason Renouf has led the Spartans to a great first half of the season, and they are looking to finish it just as strong in the back half. Listen for Senior RB Derek Wests name to be called plenty in this one.
- Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at District 6 Stadium
Dakota Ridge (2-3) at Bear Creek (1-4)
- Dokata Ridge has had mixed success this year, and are off to a 2-3 start. They are looking to right the ship this week and advance to 3-3. They will be asking Senior Jered Garcia to shoulder to burden and carry them to victory. This will be the game to do it as they take on a struggling 1-4 Bear Creek.
- The Bears are coming into this one looking to turn the season around. Not much to say other than they have played two tough teams in Lakewood and Pomona. Bear Creek will look to Senior RB George Martinez to add to his 7 TD’s and put another W in the win/loss column.
2A: Rifle (5-0) at Delta (4-1)
- Rifle has come out hot this year. Off to a 5-0 start and truthfully none of their games besides a very good Glenwood Springs team have been close. The Bears are looking to advance to 6-0 on the backs of an electric RB duo in Levi Warfel and Tanner Vines. These guys have combined for 16 TD’s on the ground this season.
- 4-1 Delta is coming off of a close shootout with Aspen, a 49-40 affair. The Panthers are led by stud Sophomore QB Nolan Bynum and will be relying on his arm this week to get it done against Rifle.
- Location and Time: Friday 7 pm, Delta HS
