This Week’s Breakdown

5A: GOTW: Cherry Creek (7-0) at Eaglecrest (7-0)

  1. Cherry Creek is coming off an unexpected bye week due to some very unfortunate events in the Arapahoe community. Our thoughts are with all of the affected families. The Bruins are 7-0 and eager to get back on the field with Senior QB Alex Padilla leading the charge. Look for both Marcus Miller and Chase Penry to be his go-to WR’s in this one.
  2. Eaglecrest comes into this matchup 7-0 as well and after a 51-8 blowout against a down Overland team. The Raptors are ready to test their mettle again against the #2 team in the state.
  3. Location & Time: Friday, 7 pm at Legacy Stadium or if you can’t make the game, you can watch the live broadcast on NFHS Network

5A: Columbine (7-0) at Ralston Valley (6-1)

  1. Andy Lowry is leading Columbine to another very impressive year so far. The Rebels are entering this one sitting pretty at 7-0 and are looking to make it 8 straight wins. As always the run game is a paramount part of the offense, and Columbine looks to have a full stable this year with their RB’s combining for 30 rushing TD’s on the year.
  2. On the flip side sits Ralston Valley and head coach Matt Loyd. The Mustangs ride into this one at 6-1, their only loss coming from a dominant Loveland team. That game was close, by the way, 21-17 barn burner. Ralston Valley has relied on a balanced attack this year with 15 TD’s through the air and 23 on the ground. Look to see the same style of play in this one.
  3. Location & Time: Thursday, 7 pm at the NAAC

4A: Pine Creek (5-1) at Mesa Ridge (4-2)

  1. The Eagles are coming off of a surprise bye week after Cheyenne Mountain elected to forfeit last week. That means Pine Creek is coming off of a week of rest. You know Todd Miller is going to have his boys ready to get back after it this week. He will be looking to his workhorses Gavin Herberg, Eddie Kyle, and DM3 in this one.
  2. Mesa Ridge comes into this one sitting at 4-2. Coach David Boden is looking to give Pine Creek some trouble this week. He is going to be relying on his Senior RB Trevon Walker who is close to breaking 1,000 rushing yards on the season.
  3. Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at N/A

3A: Discovery Canyon (6-0) at Thomas Jefferson (6-0)

  1. Discovery Canyon is entering the matchup at an impressive 6-0 and after a 63-0 blowout of Littleton these guys are looking like nothing will slow them down. Zach Anderson and Ryan Monteleone are the Thunders 1-2 punch, look for them to make a splash in this one.
  2. Thomas Jefferson is also coming into the week undefeated. However, after a close 38-22 win over a down Lewis-Palmer team, some questions are starting to arise about the Spartans. We will find out a lot about them this week. They are going to rely heavily on the run game and Junior RB Daveon Hunter in this one.
  3. Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at All City Field

3A: Frederick (5-1) at Holy Family (5-1)

  1. Frederick is having themselves a year. Coming into the week at a strong 5-1, the Warriors are looking to add another W to the win column. This is a team that loves to put up points and in their last three games, they have outscored their opponents 159-13. Junior WR Brandon Hornby has put together an impressive season for himself with 9 rushing TD’s, and he will be looking to add a few more in this one.
  2. Holy family is looking good this year. They are sitting at 5-1 with their only loss coming from a very good Discovery Canyon team. After a 40-7 blowout of Denver North, the Tigers are on the hunt for another W. Kyle Helbig is the driving force of the team with 4 TD’s through the air and 9 on the ground, look for him to control the ball for the Tigers this week.
  3. Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at Holy Family High School
