This Week’s Breakdown
GOTW: 4A: Broomfield (6-1) At Greeley West (6-1)
- Broomfield is on a hot streak. After losing early in the season to a dominant Loveland team, the Eagles have 5 in a row in spectacular fashion. Broomfield will have another tough matchup on their hands this week in a 6-1 Greeley West team, they will look to star Senior QB Steven Croell in this one to lead them to the W.
- Greeley West has been dominant this year, their only slip up has come from a Florida team in the first game of the season. After coming back to Colorado the Spartans have dominated most matchups and managed to take down perennial powerhouse Chatfield as well. This game is shaping up to be an exciting one.
- Location and Time: Thursday, 6:30 pm at District 6 Stadium
5A: Valor Christian (8-0) At ThunderRidge (7-1)
- Valor Christian is rolling into week 9 after a 48-7 win over Mountain Vista. Valor is now eyeing another highlands ranch rival, ThunderRidge, who is off to their best season in years. The Eagles will be looking to their all-star cast of players Luke McCaffery, Josiah Davis, and Kaiden Keefe to get it done this week.
- The Grizzlies are looking to shock everyone this week. Coming into the game sitting at a strong 7-1, ThunderRidge wants this one bad. You know coach Nissenson is getting everyone as excited as he can. This matchup goes back to almost 10 years when Valor first opened. The Grizzlies are going to be ready and you can bet they are going to look to their stout defense and electric running back Spencer Lambert to have a big game.
- location & Time: Thursday, 7 pm at Shea Stadium
5A: Cherokee Trail (7-1) At Cherry Creek (8-0)
- Cherokee Trail is coming off of a close one against Overland last week, a 36-24 affair. The Cougars needed that bounce back game to get back on track after a tough loss to Grandview the week prior. Joe Johnson is going to have another tough one this week as they take on the best team in the state, Cherry Creek. You can bet he will have his defense flying all over the field trying to make plays against a seasoned QB, Alex Padilla.
- Week 8 was a close one for the Bruins. They managed to hold on against Eaglecrest in a 14-13 barn burner. Low scoring games usually aren’t our thing here but this one was a game to remember. Alex Padilla and the Bruins are going to want to score points in this one, and I think coach Logan is on the same page as well. Make sure to watch Padilla’s stat line in this one, things could get very exciting.
- Location and Time: Friday, 7 pm at the Stutler Bowl
5A: Pomona (6-2) At Columbine (8-0)
- Pomona is making it happen this year, even without the stars of the 2017-2018 season. A ton of credit has to go to coach Jay Madden, he always has the Panthers in contention. After an impressive win over Mullen last week, the Panthers focus now shifts to an equally impressive Columbine team. Dominic Bettini will be the one carrying the load for Pomona in this one. It should be interesting to see what he can do against a dominant Columbine Defense.
- The Rebels are looking very good this year, sitting at an impressive 8-0. Ralston Valley gave them some fits last week but they were able to pull it out 29-14. Logan Dearment and Tanner Hollens are a dangerous combo to have on the field, and you know coach Lowry is going to be using them well this week. The Rebels desense is no joke either, not one team has been able to crack 20 points on them this year. This should be a very good game.

4A: Pueblo West (5-2) At Air Academy (6-1)
- Pueblo West comes into the week sitting at a strong 6-2. Both their losses have come from very good opponents, Pine Creek and Fruita Monument. After a big win last week against Coronado, 49-14, the Cyclones have their eyes set on 6-1 Air Academy. Kyle Jameson will be the workhorse in this one, look for him to add to his 10 TD stat line.
- Air Academy has been a surprise this season. The Kadets have managed to put together a very nice record so far at 6-1 and absolutely blowing some teams out in the process. We will find out a lot about the team this week as they face off against the best team they will play all year. Look for senior QB Bo Powers to spread it out in this one.
- Location and Time: Friday, 6 pm at Air Academy High School
3A: Thomas Jefferson (6-1) At Palmer Ridge (5-2)
- Thomas Jefferson looks revitalized this year. Before last week the Spartans had strung together 6 straight wins and were looking like no one was going to slow them down. However, a very impressive Discovery Canyon team unseated them 39-22 in week 7. They will have to have a short memory because they are coming up against a scary Palmer Ridge team this week. Senior RB Daveon Hunter is going to have to be ready to run in this one, he will be looking to add to his 15 TD’s.
- After a slow start to the year, Palmer Ridge looks to be firing on all cylinders. The Bears have looked unstoppable in their last 4 games, outscoring opponents 208-27. You know who the stars are for Palmer Ridge already if you have been a long time listener. Ty Evans, Duece Roberson, Anthony Castanzo, and Kaden Dudley make up a difficult line-up to gameplan for and this week is no different.
